            Busse Library

            Mount Mercy’s Busse Library is physically open approximately 83 hours per week during spring and fall semesters and virtually open 24/7 with access to many electronic resources through Brightspace. Our building is 65,000 square feet with nearly 84,000 volumes and multiple computing areas for students – 20 PCs in the computer classroom, 35 computers in the Reference Area, and a Mac computer lab.

            Finding, evaluating and using information is the mainstay of a college education. There are numerous handouts and videos online to assist students with various aspects of this process. The reference staff is here help you learn about the use of the library for assignments and papers. Workshops and individual instruction are available.             WorldCat, the library catalog is searchable at . Search by keyword as default; select a tab to isolate items of interest (articles, books, and videos). Results can reflect holdings in the area corridor, greater Iowa, and/or the world.
            We have current subscriptions to over 10,000 journals, magazines and newspapers that are accessible using the electronic periodical indexes available on the Busse Library Web and your Brightspace account. Visit the library's catalog, WorldCat, to search for a title of interest or to browse holdings by subject.
            Students may check-out books for four weeks. DVDs and periodicals (magazines/journals) circulate for 72 hours (3 days). Curriculum Collection items may be checked out for four weeks. Books, photocopies of articles, videos and other materials are sometimes put on reserve by faculty for student use. Most may be checked out for 2 hours for in-library use only. Some faculty have links to full-text articles for assigned readings in your Brightspace course pages.
            Books and photocopies of journal articles may be ordered for personal use through (ILL). Journal articles usually arrive within a week. Books may take a bit longer. Books may usually be kept for up to three weeks. Complete an online form for each article or book you need. Always check to see if Busse Library may have the journal or book before submitting a form. ILL requests may be made by filling out the form linked above and directly from periodical databases. for assistance.
            Our media collection includes videos, DVDs, music CDs, and teaching kits along with digital cameras. DVDs are housed on the main floor. There are listening and viewing areas on the first floor. Films may be checked out for three days; equipment may be checked out for 24 hours.
            The Curriculum Collection is found on the lower level and is a variation of a school library and media center. Children’s books and teaching aids are in this collection. Items circulate for three weeks at a time.
            Visit Busse Center Library on the web or click the Library link in your Brightspace account for off-campus access to the library. Some information resources are restricted to on campus use or require passwords. See the Reference Librarian for passwords or access the library through your Brightspace account.
